Privacy Policy

This policy explains what Calverda LLC (“we,” “us”) collects when you use The Tartan, how we use it, how long we keep it, and who we share it with. The Tartan is a companion app for private golf events; we collect only what we need to run the events you create or participate in.

What we collect
- Identity. Your name and email address — either entered by you when you create an account, or entered by an event organizer who invites you. A mobile phone number is optional; account signup never asks for one, and we collect it only if you choose to opt into SMS from your account settings (Settings → Notifications).
- SMS consent record.If you opt into SMS, we record the timestamp, your IP address, your browser’s user agent, and the exact disclosure text shown to you at that moment, alongside the version of the disclosure copy. This is how we prove the opt-in was explicit and informed.
- Authentication.One-time sign-in codes sent to your email (or, if you’ve opted into SMS, to your phone), and the timestamp at which you verified them. We do not store your code.
- Event activity. The events you participate in and the data you generate inside them — scores, sheet entries, group competition entries, records of informal side games between participants, bracket picks, Ryder Cup assignments, and the messages you exchange with other participants through the app.
- Notification records. Logs of the messages we sent you (in-app and SMS), their delivery status, and your preferences.
- Operational telemetry. Server-side error reports and request logs used to keep the service running. We scrub phone numbers and other sensitive fields from these reports before they reach our error-tracking provider.
We do not collect financial account information. The Tartan does not take payments and does not hold any money on your behalf.
How we use it
- To authenticate you and keep your session secure.
- To run the events you join — record entries, compute standings and results, and notify you of activity.
- To send in-app notifications, and — only if you have opted into SMS — one-time sign-in codes and event reminders such as round start times, tee-time assignments, and schedule changes (see our SMS Disclosure). SMS carries nothing else.
- To diagnose and fix problems with the service.
We do not use your information to send marketing, target advertising, or train machine-learning models.
Service providers
We share information only with vendors who process it on our instructions to operate The Tartan:
- Twilio Inc. — sends SMS messages and one-time passcodes on our behalf.
- Supabase Inc. — provides our database and authentication infrastructure.
- Vercel Inc. — hosts the application.
- Functional Software, Inc. (Sentry) — collects anonymized server-side error reports.
We do not sell, rent, or otherwise transfer your information to third parties for their own purposes. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights and safety of participants.
Mobile Information and SMS
SMS is entirely optional.You can sign in and use The Tartan by email without providing a mobile number or opting into SMS; consent to SMS is never a condition of creating an account, joining an event, or using the service. The only place to opt in is your account settings (Settings → Notifications), and you can revoke there at any time or by replying STOP.
If you opt in, SMS carries only one-time sign-in codes and event reminders such as round start times, tee-time assignments, and schedule changes. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply.
Mobile information — your phone number, the fact and content of any SMS opt-in, and any opt-out reply — is used only to deliver messages from The Tartan on behalf of Calverda LLC. It is not used for any purpose other than operating the service.
We do not sell or share your mobile number or SMS opt-in data with third parties or affiliates for their marketing or promotional purposes. This applies whether the data was collected through the opt-in screen in account settings or any subsequent reply (including STOP/HELP).
How long we keep it
We retain your account, event participation records, and notification logs for up to 24 monthsafter the last event you participated in. We may revise this window from time to time; if we shorten it, the change applies to existing data on a rolling basis. You can ask us to delete your data sooner — see “Your choices” below.
Your choices
- Notification preferences. Adjust per-channel and per-category preferences in the app under Settings, or reply STOP to any SMS to opt out of all SMS.
- Access, correction, deletion. Email support@calverda.com to request a copy of your data, correct an inaccuracy, or have your account and history deleted. We respond within 30 days.
Children
The Tartan is intended for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
Security
We use TLS in transit, isolated production credentials, and short-lived sessions cookies. No system is perfectly secure; if you believe your account has been compromised, contact support@calverda.com immediately.
Changes to this policy
If we materially change this policy we will update the effective date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app or by email. Continued use of The Tartan after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
